Step outside Amsterdam for a day that brings together art, architecture, and nature. Your journey begins in the Hoge Veluwe National Park, a vast green corridor where native forests, heathlands, and drifting sands form one of the Netherlands’ most varied landscapes. Cycling paths cut through the woods, wildlife roams freely, and traditional farms shape the horizon—a living portrait of the Dutch countryside.

At the park’s heart stands the Kröller-Müller Museum, the creation of Helene Kröller-Müller, often described as the Dutch Guggenheim. Like Peggy Guggenheim in Venice, she was a collector driven not just by taste but by conviction: the belief that modern art could transform the way we see the world. With the support of her husband Anton, she built one of the most remarkable private collections of the 20th century.

Convinced that Vincent van Gogh was “one of the great spirits of modern art,” she acquired nearly ninety of his paintings and more than 180 drawings—today forming the world’s second-largest Van Gogh collection. Her vision was never about ownership alone, but about sharing beauty with the public, a legacy that continues through the museum.

Beyond Van Gogh, the collection expands into the sculpture garden, where works by Barbara Hepworth, Jean Dubuffet, Marta Pan, and others are set amid open lawns and winding paths. Architecture itself becomes part of the experience, with pavilions by Gerrit Rietveld and Aldo van Eyck, and museum wings by Henry van de Velde and Wim Quist.
