About Conservatorium

The Conservatorium is one of Amsterdam's defining design hotels, set on the edge of Museumplein within steps of the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk. The building dates from 1897, when it was completed as the Rijkspostspaarbank — the national postal savings bank — to a design by Daniël Knuttel; after the bank moved out it became the Sweelinck Conservatory of music, which gives the hotel its name. In 2011 Italian architect Piero Lissoni transformed it into a hotel, threading a luminous glass atrium through the monumental brickwork and pairing the historic shell with crisp contemporary interiors. There are 129 rooms and suites, many of them split-level, arranged around the central courtyard. Dining centres on Taiko, chef Schilo van Coevorden's acclaimed Asian-inspired restaurant, with the adjoining Tunes Bar and an all-day brasserie and lounge. The 1,000 m2 Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre adds an indoor pool, hammam, sauna and gym. A member of The Set Collection.
