About this tour

Between 15 September 2026 and 3 January 2027 the Kröller-Müller Museum shows all 88 of its Van Gogh paintings together, for the first time since 1984, in Van Gogh, All Our Paintings. The regular hang is already the second largest Van Gogh collection in the world. The exhibition adds the middle of the story, the studies and second versions that rarely leave the depot. This day pairs it with the moated castles of the Veluwe.

The day

Meet the Storykeeper in the hotel lobby and drive to the Hoge Veluwe National Park, about 1h15 from Amsterdam. Enter the museum through the sculpture garden, past Hepworth, Moore and Dubuffet, and go straight to the exhibition while the rooms are quiet. Follow the three chapters of faith, hope and love with the Storykeeper, then step into the permanent collection, where Seurat, Picasso and Mondrian take the story from Van Gogh to abstraction, exactly as Helene intended when she began buying in 1908.

After the galleries, visit the art bunker privately, the concrete shelter in the forest where the entire collection sat out the Second World War. Lunch at a country inn nearby (not included).

In the afternoon, drive to Doorwerth Castle, a moated fortress on the floodplain of the Rhine with foundations from the 13th century, badly damaged in the battle of Arnhem in 1944 and rebuilt stone by stone. In spring and summer the day can end instead at Rosendael, with its shell gallery and trick fountains, or at Cannenburch, the Renaissance house of Maarten van Rossum. Return to the hotel in the early evening.
