Private historic saloon boat on the Amsterdam canals
About this tour
The gentlest way to meet Amsterdam, and the strongest reason to be here this season. In the morning the city from the water, on a private saloon boat built a century ago for exactly this purpose. In the afternoon the Yayoi Kusama retrospective at the Stedelijk Museum, from 12 September 2026 to 17 January 2027, seven decades of work, a newly created Infinity Mirror Room and pieces never shown in Europe. Amsterdam is the last stop of the exhibition after Basel and Cologne, and after the artist's death in August 2026 it has become her farewell.

The day
Meet the Storykeeper in the hotel lobby and walk through the Historic Center, past Dam Square and the Royal Palace, to the boat landing. Board a historic saloon boat, glass, brass and varnished wood, and glide along the Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht, the 17th century ring that made the canal house the most desirable address in Europe. Out on the IJ and the Amstel, the view opens to the harbour where the fortunes behind those houses were made. Coffee on board. Lunch at a canalside restaurant after docking (not included).

In the afternoon, continue to Museumplein for the Kusama retrospective at the Stedelijk. The Storykeeper follows the five bodies of work that explain her, the Infinity Nets, the Accumulations, Narcissus Garden, the Pumpkins and the Infinity Mirror Rooms, and tells the story of a girl from Matsumoto who painted the dots she saw as a child and spent seventy years turning them into a way of disappearing into the world. Leave the mirror room for last, and alone. Return to the hotel on foot or by tram.
